Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr has expressed regret to fans for his reaction when substituted in the recent fiery Clasico clash triumph.

The Brazilian was replaced in the second half and showed his disappointment by heading directly off the pitch.

He later returned to the dugout and, after his team's 2-1 win, sought to engage Barça's youngster Yamal during unsavoury post-match incidents.

"Today I want to apologise to all the supporters for my reaction when I was substituted in the derby," he wrote on X.

"Similarly to I have previously expressed during today's practice, I wish to apologise again to my colleagues, the team, and the leadership.

"Occasionally passion gets the better of me because I constantly desire to triumph and assist my club. My competitive character comes from the love I have for this institution and everything it represents."

Vinicius moved to the Spanish capital from Flamengo in recent years for £38.7m and has accumulated 111 goals in numerous matches.

But his future in the La Liga is far from certain with rumors in recent months indicating that Los Blancos would think about letting the 25-year-old depart if they obtained a suitable offer.

When he was taken off on Sunday, cameras from broadcaster Dazn picked him up stating: "Again me! I'm exiting the club! It's preferable if I leave, I'm moving on."

In his most recent statement on social media, the athlete commented: "I promise to keep striving at all times for the good of Real Madrid, as I have performed since the initial arrival."
